Residents: Hackney Council failing to deal with yobs

Hackney Council has been named and shamed because a large number of residents believe it does little to deal with yobbish behaviour.

The National Audit Office (NAO) watchdog, which looked at residents’ perceptions of anti-social behaviour, found that a massive 42.7 per cent of adults in Hackney believed that loutish behaviour was a problem.

The report, released in December 2006, also suggested that 55 per cent of anti-social behaviour orders (ABSOs) had been breached, with offenders either committing further offences or breaking the terms of their orders.

Hackney Conservatives have been calling for the Council to take effective action on anti-social behaviour for some time. But with a £50m bill for refurbishing its offices, Labour’s priorities suggest that the few crumbs that fall from their table won’t be spent on facilities for young people.

It’s time we got rid of these so-called socialists: Hackney deserves better.
